It was a surreal incident when a gunman took his gun and fired at a Florida concert venue, where the onetime star of The Voice singer Christina Grimmie signed autographs for fans after a show, officials said Saturday.
Heather Walsh, a public spokesperson for Grimmie, said in an email early on Saturday that “we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord”. Later, the Orlando police department also tweeted and posted to confirm that Grimmie had died.
The Police Official said that the 22-year-old singer had performed with the band Before You Exit at The Plaza Live in Orlando. After the concert ended around 10pm, Grimmie with other band members was signing autographs for fans at a merchandise table, where she was shot dead.
After much struggle Grimmie’s brother immediate and instant actions helped in tackling the gunman, who then shot and killed himself during the whole incident took place, police said.
An investigation is going on the police have not identified the gunman, and has been unable to know that why he attacked the singer. The police appreciated the singer’s brother who helped in preventing the gunman from hurting others.
Christina Grimmie, who was born in New Jersey, be came the third during sixth season of the US series of The Voice, competing on the team of Maroon 5 star Adam Levine.
Grimmie began amassing a following on YouTube as a teenager, attracting many online viewers with her powerful performances of hit songs. Several of her videos on YouTube have managed to get millions of views.
The Voice paid tribute to Grimmie on its official Twitter page: “There are no words. We lost a beautiful soul with an amazing voice.” Levine posted a photo of himself with Grimmie on Instagram, commenting before her death was confirmed: “I’m sad, shocked and confused. We love you so much Grimmie. We are all praying hard that you can pull through this … this just isn’t fair.”
