Comrades Marathon it is!!
Ironman of India – Dr kaustubh Radkar has always proven true to his title, but on Sunday 29th May, he not only justified his title, but also proved that he is the True King of Indian Endurance. It certainly didn’t feel like his debut Comrades as the elite athlete completed the challenging 90 km run at an incredible timing of 8 hours, 47 minutes and 44 seconds at South Africa. He was the fastest amongst a whopping 97 Indians this year. To top this unbelievable feat, he also did 10 pushups at the finish line! Ironman or Comrades, he has a habit of finishing his exceptional performances in style!
This year Comrades had runners from Pune city as well. 10 Punekars successfully completed their run within the stipulated time of 12 hours. Vineeta Jadhavrao, Amod Bhate, Sameer Wagle, Krishna Sirothia, Atul Godbole, Avinash Mane, Kishor Dhankude, Sameer Chitre were the city runners who completed this grueling run and made us proud.
What is Comrades?
The Comrades Marathon is an ultra marathon of approximately 90 km which is run annually in the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg. Established in 1921, it is the world's largest and oldest ultra marathon race. Runners over the age of 20 qualify when they are able to complete an officially recognized marathon (42.2 km) in under five hours.
