Welcome your guests with these easy to prepare Diwali snacks with a pinch of healthy stuff. Diwali is considered as a festival of lights, so brighten up your health with the hearty morsel. This Diwali don’t worry about the extra weight you usually put on after eating all the appetizing oily snacks. People are getting more health conscious, so here are few mind-blowing recipes for those who love to keep them fit.

  1. BAKED SALUBRIOUS CRACKER

A favorite Diwali snack of the entire guest bunch is Jeera Mathri, enjoyed mostly at the tea time. The twist in the recipe is to replace the All Purpose Flour (Maida) with Wheat Flour.

Recipe:

Wheat Flour                                       2 Cups

Feenugreek/methi Powder (Seeds)     1 tsp

Cumin Seeds/ Jeera                           1 tsp

Salt                                                   According to taste

Oil                                                    2 tsp and for greasing the baking plate

Water                                               For binding

Method:

Mix all dry ingredients. Add hot oil in the dry ingredients.  Mix well with the help of spatula. Add water little by little and bind tight dough. Cover and rest the dough for 15 minutes.

Make 15-20 small balls out of dough and then roll each one.

Prick the large flattened bread with the help of fork or knife.

Cut the large bread with the help of cookie cutter to get attractive and even shapes.

Pre-heat the oven at 1800 C and bake each side for 12-15 minutes at conventional mode.

Enjoy the crispy and tasty snack with a hot cup of tea.

Flavors:

One can add finely chop the fenugreek leaves, Carom (Ajwain Seeds), etc according to your likings.

Precautions:

  • Bind the dough tight/hard, this helps in adding crispiness in the mathri.
  • Fork/knife should be pricked deep, as this helps in making the flattened mathri and avoids puffing which leads to soft ones.

 

  1. HEALTHY OATS CHAKLI

The most popular item of the Diwali is the Chakli. Try this recipe you will surely love it.

Ingredients:

Rice flour                                                    2 cups

Oats                                                          ½ cup

Sesame seeds                                           ¼ tsp

Asafoetida                                                 ¼ tsp

Red chilies powder                                     4 tsp

Salt                                                           According to taste

Oil                                                             4 tsp and for frying

Method:

Dry roast the oats and then keep them aside for cooling down to normal temperature. Grind the roasted oats to fine powder. Add oats powder, rice flour and hot oil in a bowl and mix well. Crumble it and then add red chilies powder, asafetida, sesame seeds and salt to the crumble. . Add water little by little and bind tight dough. Cover and rest the dough for 30 minutes.

With the help of chakli mold, prepare chakli and deep fry in hot oil or pre-heat the oven at 1800 C and bake each side for 12 minutes at conventional mode.

 

  1. LUSCIOUS PALAK SEV

Ingredients:

Spinach/Palak                                      1 big cup

Ginger paste                                        1 tsp

Garlic paste                                          1 tsp

Green chillies                                        3 tsp

Garam Masala                                      ¼ tsp

Besan                                                   500 gm

Asafoetida                                            ¼ tsp

Carum (Ajwain Seeds)                          ¼ tsp

Sugar                                                   A pinch

Salt                                                     According to taste

Oil                                                      3 tsp and for frying

Method:

Blanch leaves of spinach in hot water for 3 minutes. Remove excess of water by pressing the leaves between the kitchen napkins. Prepare the green puree by blending the blanched leaves in the grinder.

Mix all the ingredients and add hot oil and knead with little amount of water to form soft dough.

Using the sev mould, directly press the sev into hot oil and fry till both sides are cooked properly. Fry on slow-medium flame, so that sev are properly cooked from inside.

 

Tip: Always store the snacks in an airtight container, this helps to keep the snacks fresh and crispy.
