Kahaani 2 fails to meet the thrilling standards expected from a thriller.
Rating – 2.5/5
Star cast: Vidya Balan, Arjun Rampal, Jugal Hansraj
Director: Sujoy Ghosh
Running time: 121 minutes
The story revolves around Vidya Sinha (Vidya Balan) and her paralyzed daughter Mini (Tunisha Sharma). Mini is kidnapped and then starts the story of Vidya Sinha being a wanted criminal named Rani Durga Singh who has actually kidnapped Mini. The drama which unfolds and how Police Inspector Inderjeet Singh (Arjun Rampal) plays a vital role in the entire plot should be seen on the screen.
The movie is not a sequel to Kahaani and hence should not be compared to the earlier one. Having said that, the movie disappoints on many fronts. Kahaani 2 is promoted as a thriller but the thrill is too predictable. The story unfolds in a mundane manner with very expected twists. The movie holds your attention but in bits and pieces. Overall, the movie does not make you feel wanting for more. It might not be a whodunnit thriller, but the storyline is not appealing enough.
What make the movie a tad bit interesting is the issue they have addressed in the movie. A common social issue which needs addressing at all fronts. And of course the stellar performance by Vidya Balan. She doesn’t wear georgette sarees and dance on songs, she wears minimal make up and even her wardrobe is plain. And yet, she nails the role of Vidya Singh shouldering it just with her acting skills.
Vidya Balan and Arjun Rampal feel good on the screen. But Arjun Rampal’s role doesn’t have enough meat for the audience to chew on. It is good to see Jugal Hansraj after a long time but his presence is sparse and does not create a lasting impact.
If you are an ardent Vidya Balan fan then only you should watch this movie. Otherwise you can give this movie a pass this weekend!
