Anyone who has heard, and jigged along to, songs like Mehbooba, Mehbooba and Piya Tu Ab Toh Aaja (sings along automatically!) knows of the colourful and lively entertainer that was Rahul Dev Burman or R.D. Burman as the world knows him.
R.D. Burman, son of Sachin Dev (S.D.) Burman, set the music scene on fire from the ‘60s through the ‘90s in Bollywood. A composer, a director and a singer, he was one of the greatest personalities back in the day. He began his career at the age of nine when he composed his very first song, which was used by his father in the movie Funtoosh in 1956. He has scored 331 films in his career and was nominated 18 times for the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director.
