“Fuck!” Suddenly Twinkle was in complete senses and couldn’t believe that she had just slept with her best friend.
“It’s over!” Reema yelled and banged the door as she left.
Without a word, Krishna pulled his clothes and ran after his wife, hoping Reema wouldn’t create a scene on the road.
Twinkle cursed herself and latched the door as she burst out howling. Reema already was not very fond of their friendship. Just like Dev, she felt insecure at the strong bond they shared. There were times when Krishna would be at the bar with her cribbing about his work, but would lie to Reema that he was with his guy buddies. Now, she would torture Kris for the rest of his life with the statement, “I HAD TOLD YOU SO!” She noticed Krishna’s cell phone lying on the table. It was switched off. Her own phone had eighteen missed calls from Reema, but as it was on silent, she never realized when she got all those stupid calls from her. If only she had seen her phone ringing at least once, she wouldn’t have tried to seduce her own friend. For a second, she thought she would call Reema and apologize, but she didn’t wish to make matters worse as she was sure Krishna would be trying to convince her right now.
She was disappointed and extremely upset that Krishna didn’t report to work the next day. Twinkle left his phone with the Front Office staff and couldn’t concentrate at work the entire day. The thought of calling Reema would pop in her head and instantly disappear, but she desperately wished to speak to Krishna and make sure things were right. On the second day, one of his colleagues mentioned that Krishna had collected his phone, but wouldn’t be reporting to work today as well.
She kept checking her phone for any message from him. She stalked his Facebook and Whats App last seen after every five minutes for an update. Finally, after three days, she received a message from him
“SORRY, I CAN NOT BE IN TOUCH WITH YOU ANYMORE, REEMA HAS GIVEN ME AN ULTIMATUM. IT WAS THE ONLY WAY TO SAVE OUR MARRIAGE.”
Twinkle furiously typed a long message, about their friendship days, but then deleted it. She typed she was fine, but then deleted it too, because she was not fine. She had some very good friends, but no one could ever take Krishna’s place. She knew this and maybe he knew it too. The worst part was she could speak crazy stuff to him knowing he would never judge her and the pain of losing her bestie was driving Twinkle crazy. She had never been so upset and disturbed even when she broke up with Dev. Cursing herself, Twinkle resumed work, knowing that her life would always be incomplete without Krishna’s presence.
