Actor Vinod Khanna, once a heartthrob of Bollywood died today morning, after his prolong battle with Cancer. He was 70.
The actor was admitted to the HN Reliance Foundation and Research Centre in Girgaon, Mumbai. Recently, in one of his photo which surfaced on the internet shocked his fans and other actors from industry due to his ‘frail’ and ‘weak’ look. This definitely seemed shocking for many who remember Vinod Khanna’s charming appeal in his early years in Bollywood.
Vinod Khanna, was born in 6th October, 1946. He was also a sitting MP for Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) from Gurdaspur district of Punjab and acted in more than 100 films between 1968 to 2013.
The actor debuted in 1968 with Mann Ka Meet, and later on he went on to becoming a star and garnered positive reviews for his outstanding performance in films like Mere Apne, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Imtihaan, Inkaar, Amar Akbar Anthony, The Burning Train, Lahu ke Do Rang, Qurbani, Dayavaan and Jurm.
Vinod Khanna won Best Supporting Actor award for Haath ki Safaai and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999.
In 1982, he took a break from films, and joined his Guru Osho Rajneesh at his ashram. After a five-year long hiatus, he returned to doing films like Insaaf and Satyamev Jayate.
In 1997, Vinod Khanna joined politics and was elected in Gurdaspur for BJP ticket in next year Lok Sabha. He was appointed as Union Minister for culture and tourism in 2002 during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s regime. Then he became a minister of state in Ministry of External Affairs, but lost the election in 2009 and won again in Gurdaspur in 2014.
In recent years, the actor was part of Bollywood films like Dabangg, Players, Dabangg 2, Dilwale and was praised for his roles. He was survived by his children and wife, Kavita.
