Every day one hour I dedicate to myself which I call ‘me time’. This one hour I am not a wife, not a daughter, not a sister, not a friend, not a daughter in law but just me. What makes me happy about this ‘me time’ is – I am my own self with no pretense and I can indulge in anything.
My each day is very busy even though I am not working. There is cooking, cleaning, calling back home – mundane things which tend to dominate most of the 24 hours of the day. But within this dull regularity of events, there is this one hour in which I do something different.
I hit the Salon sometimes. Pamper myself. Feel good. No one can deny the pleasure of just sitting down and letting others work to make you feel rejuvenated. Get rid of that dead skin and say hello to new you! I go to the spa. Let my muscles relax and let the tiredness vanish from my body. Undoubtedly, this is the best use of my ‘me time’.
There are times when I take a book, go and sit in Starbucks. I love the hustle bustle at cafes mingled with the aroma of the coffee. I sit there in a corner table and just observe people under the pretext of reading my book. Each table tells a different story and it amazes me how all of us are so distinct and yet at the same time have some similarity. I am not a part of the peoples’ conversations and yet I can relate to so many stories being shared around me.
Sometimes I just sit back and think. Being alone teaches me to enjoy my own company. Engaging myself in my own solitary experiences makes me aware of my interests and reminds me that I can be the reason for my own happiness. I go beyond loneliness into the self-awareness zone and this creates a stronger sense of my being, my worth. Being with my own thoughts for a while is reveling.
Other times I disconnect from the virtual world, unplug myself from all the social media and go for a walk in the park. The fresh air outside is revitalizing. And as I walk hearing my each footstep, it gives me a sense of progression. Progression as a good human being. The greenery around helps me cope up with my stress and I feel at harmony with the nature. The birds chirping make me hum my favorite song. The smiling people around make me happy within.
These are my ways of spending the ‘me time’. You should also try to get some time off from all the bandwagon of activities and have a moment of your own. So how will you spend your ‘me time’?
