All of us know Mrunmayee Deshpande as the female lead of the Marathi soap Kunku. She proved her mettle in this series and soon became the queen of hearts in many households. From there, Mrunmayee never looked back. Today she is engaged in some promising projects in the Marathi film industry which are not just restricted to acting.

1. Her Debut Bollywood was Humne Jeena Sikh Liya

Yes, you heard it right! Mrunmayee has already debuted in Bollywood with the movie named ‘Humne Jeena Sikh Liya’. This movie released in 2008 was directed by Milind Ukey who is Assistant Director to Sanjay Lila Bhansali. The movie was based on the popular Marathi novel ‘Shaala’ written by author Milind Bokil. Mrunmayee starred against another upcoming Marathi actor of today Siddhartha Chaphekar.

2. Mrunmayee Deshpande is a Puneri Mulgi having studied at S.P. College

Mrunmayee is a typical Puneri Mulgi who did her schooling in Renuka Swaroop High School and then further studies at Sir Parshurambhau College. Her home is amidst the hub of the city i.e. between Lakshmi Road and Kumthekar Road.

3. Being a Puneri, she still manages to stay off modaks!

There was a time when Mrunmayee adored modaks but now she stays off sweets to keep herself fit and healthy. Every year during Ganpati, all her cousins have a modak eating marathon but Mrunmayee does not participate in these marathons anymore and asks others to eat on her behalf! Now here is one Punekar with a strong control over mind when it comes to food!


4. Talent runs in the Family

Mrunmayee comes from a distinct culturally rich family. Her mother is a dancer and you can see the genes getting transferred to Mrunmayee. Mrunmayee’s maternal grandparents were involved in theatre and hence the legacy continues with the next generations too. Mrunmayee’s younger sister Gautami has started in theatre now and is a very good singer.

5. Mrunmayee’s First Directorial Debut was the play ‘Conditions Apply’

Mrunmayee’s first directorial debut was the play ‘Conditions Apply’ which she directed when she was in college while participating in the Firodia Cup. She will be soon seen in a full-fledged Director avatar in 2016 as she will be directing her first ever Marathi movie ‘Athrava Unta’.
