Matunga is a Mumbai’s suburban railway station on Central Railway. The specialty about this railway station is that it has got all women staff and that has made it find its way to the Lima Book of Records a few days back. This all-women railway station has thus made it to the news for good.
In fact, this has been an all-women railway station since the last six months that means since July 2017 and it is the first such a railway station in the country to be run by all women staff.
A railway official while talking about this record mentioned General Manager D K Sharma’s name saying that the credit goes to him because this is initiated by him. As said by officers the idea behind this initiative is to create an environment for women where they are encouraged to take decisions for their personal and professional well being.
Matunga – All-Women Railway Station
Mutanga as said earlier is a suburban railway station in Mumbai. The station has got about 41 women staffers which include the station staff and the RPF personnel, commercial and staff of operating department. All the staff work under the charge of Mamta Kulkarni, the station manager of Matunga.
Mamta also holds a record as she has been the first woman station manager recruited by Central Railway’s Mumbai division. She was recruited in 1992.
We often hear the stories of women achievers and this incident seems to have been different as this is an initiative by men for encouraging the women that have got recognized and god bless this kind of men.
Let us hope we see such kinds of encouraging environments for women more in future and may women get more recognized.
