Everything is happening on the internet. From paying your bills to getting your dog food. It is inevitable that entertainment also becomes a natural outcome of internet binge-watching. While we are all obsessed with international web-series, as Indians our heart sure does crave for some fun that is more relatable. You know, something that really does happen in our lives. Just when we thought Ekta Kapoor couldn’t surprise us anymore (‘Cause honestly I was going to apply to be her script-writer since I could predict the storylines anyway), she throws a bombshell called ALT Balaji and we are SCREAMING!
ALT Balaji like the name suggests, is alt-Balaji. Yes, it is not your saas-bahu saga. We promise you they’re not sleeping in silk sarees and living a middle-class life in a bungalow (Say, what!). Balaji Telefilms ltd. entered the digital arena with this subscription-based youtube channel which aired from April 16, 2017. They will be running 32 original shows in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil and Gujarati! And by the way guys, NO ADVERTISEMENTS! So you can peacefully watch while eating your dinner without toilet-cleaner ads to interrupt.
ALT Balaji and the amazing line-up of shows!
Sakshi Tanwar and Ram Kapoor are back with a show called Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat and the trailer looks very promising. It revolves around the concept of ‘Opposites attract’ and this jodi is surely making us giggle. Besides that they also have a fabulous show called Romil and Jugal that has taken the internet by a storm. A contemporary and fun twist to Romeo and Juliet through a gay romance story, this is an absolute cracker. Bewafaa sii wafaa which stars Samir Soni and Dipannita Sharma is another one. A tale of love, lust and relationships this show is also catching up with the audience.
If you are looking for out of the box, fun comedy then Boygiri is here to amaze you. Centered around different scenarious, Boygiri has a lot to offer. The Test case starring the talented Nimrat Kaur shows us the struggle of a girl to become India’s first combat officer. Whoever thinks girls are weak HAS TO watch this show for some enlightenment.
Identifying their target audience between the age group of 19-34 years, Nachiket Pantvaidya said, “We’re catering to the lack of content that exists for not just resident Indians but also those living abroad. These are original and exclusive shows and we’re not a repeat television service,”
