Dangal Story Scan:
The movie revolves around a wrestler father Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir Khan) and his daughters Geeta Kumari Phogat (Fatima Sana Shaikh) and Babita Kumari Phogat (Sanya Malhotra). Mahavir Singh Phogat could not bring a gold medal in wrestling for the nation and wants his dream to be completed by his offspring. Well technically from his ‘son’. But he realizes soon that his two daughters have wrestler’s blood in them and the story unfurls of how a father fulfills his dream through hands of his daughters.
The movie is high paced with no single moment of dullness. You are gripped to your seat the entire 2.5 hours. All of us know that in the end Geeta is going to win the gold, but what enthralls the audience is the succinct journey depicted in the movie.
The initial protests from the girls, the gradual eye opening, the countless hours of practice and hard work they put in, the father’s dismay seeing his daughter unlearning his training and taking up the national coach’s lessons and the final victory – every frame of the movie is brilliantly stirring. You feel their pain, you rejoice their victory and you get immersed in the story as if Geeta is a daughter from your hometown.
The young Geeta and Babita win everyone’s hearts. The vehemently crying Geeta on her long hair been cut, the attitude she shows on her face after winning the first dangal and the strength she exhibits on the wrestling ground – all applaudable!
This is one movie where these newbie actresses HAVE NOT let this movie be called an Aamir Khan movie. They take the weight of acting on their shoulders so capably that the audience is awestruck. Hats off to each and every character in the movie including the cousin whose narration gives a humorous touch to the otherwise power packed serious movie.
What is most commendable about the movie is the realistic picturization of the wrestling moves and not some larger than life fantasy. The story is written superbly and the dialogues are bang on. This by far is the best Aamir Khan movie till date!
When you come out of the theatre, your chest is full of pride and ‘Toh aankh se uski aankh mila ke, Bhid jaane ka naam hai pyare, Dangal dangal, Dangal dangal‘ is playing in your mind.
We have only one word for the entire team of Dangal – “Shabas“!
