PA Sangma, former Lok Sabha speaker died because of a heart attack at his Delhi residence. He was 68 years old.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan announced the news of his death in the House, which was adjourned for the day.While expressing deep grief over PA Sangma’s passing away, Ms. Mahajan said he knew how to run the House with a smile and “I learnt this from him.”

“A man of masses, PA Sangma strove relentlessly for the amelioration of the marginalised sections,” she said.

Few Facts about PA Sangma

Purno Agitok Sangma was born in Chapahati village in West Garo Hills District of Meghalaya on 1 September 1947. He completed his graduation from St. Anthony’s College, and masters in International Relations from Dibrugarh University in Assam. He also possesses a degree in law.

P A Sangma was Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 1988 to 1990 and also a co-founder of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). P A Sangma was nine time member of parliament.

PA Sangma has three children. PA Sangma’s daughter Agatha Sangma is the youngest  Minister of State in the former UPA ministry and  His son, Conrad Sangma , is the Leader of the Opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and son, James Sangma.
