While Salman Khan got acquitted for all the misdeeds he has done till date, there were many from the industry who stood up against the misogynist remarks he passed recently. One of them was Sona Mohapatra who fought her own battle against the BIG Khan and was attacked by his digital army.
Sona came out in public today and posted this on her FB page which says a LOT about her! We are thankful that we still have some sensible stars left in Bollywood who know what to stand up for!
Here are some glimpses from Sona’s post –
“Over 40 odd days ago, a public figure made an irresponsible joke about rape & on responding to some valiant supporters of this ‘slip of tongue’, I randomly came into the limelight for calling him out for his serial bullying, misogyny & other such virtues. Some crazy trolling followed by his digital army, visits to the police station from my end & a press release by a union minister, Maneka Gandhi about how the government had taken note & was going to start a web cell to control this nasty bullying of women & children online that pushes a large populace to submit & even recede ‘indoors’. I believe all this was towards positive change, however marginal. The negativity & nasty trolls aside, there was also a lot of positive support, people, young & old, friends, family & even journalists who backed & celebrated my stand & I cannot thank them enough.“
Sona Mohapatra also talked about rape and how we are putting a blind eye to it – “In the last 40 days, we have also heard of Motihari, Ahmednagar, Rohtak & now Bulandshahar in the news for gory gang rapes. The Rohtak rape was unique in that the same criminals who were roaming scot free, repeated the act with the same survivor, all because she refused to be intimidated by them or take back her case.“
She also posted a few pictures about the twitter bullying –
Sona also mentioned about Twitter having its own way of suspending some accounts and then reinstalling them so as to not lose their database. Kudos for that Twitter, after all you showed us the true colors!!! She tweeted about it – ‘Bhai Chela’s who had been suspended by Twitter have been gifted back their handles. Daddy was just as benevolent. Baby no learn no lesson.?‘
Sona further says that she did this for her gender, “While you might be bored with a 40 day old issue, at its core, it is the same issue. That of deep rooted disrespect for my gender. That of a need to bully people. That of power-play.”
Sona Mohapatra ended her post with a plea to care enough to make a change, “That this is about BIG change in the coming years. I will call you out, however boring it gets. I need zero sympathy. I do need all of us to care enough about this & every other dot that connects the big picture.”
The Stylewhack team salutes this celebrity for going against all odds and standing up for all the women out there!
