Karanam Malleswari was the first women to win a medal in weightlifting for India and that was back in 1995. And India hasn’t got any medal in this sport since the past two decades. Here comes the girl from Manipur to make India proud again by winning the gold medal in weightlifting for India. And she is Saikhom Mirabai Chanu. She is the second women to win the gold medal for India in this sport. Finally, Karanam Malleswari has got a successor at least after twenty-two years.
India Won Gold At World Weightlifting Championship
The World Weightlifting Championships have begun on November 25th and are scheduled to happen until December 5th. They are being held in Anaheim, United States Of America.
Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has in fact created a world record by lifting 194kg – 85kg snatch and 109 clean-and-jerk to win the gold medal at the World Weightlifting Championship.
